Music moguls JAY-Z and Rihanna are doing their part for a couple major cities. The Grammy-winning pair’s foundations have together donated $2 million to help coronavirus relief efforts in New York and Los Angeles

Big Facts

According to Tuesday reports, both RiRi and JAY’s foundations have aimed to help a slew of people directly impacted by COVID-19. The duo’s efforts will also push for free testing to all residents in both the Big Apple and City of Angels.

Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF) and the rapper’s Shawn Carter Foundation (SCF) will support undocumented workers, the incarcerated, homeless and elderly populations, and children of frontline healthcare workers in both major cities amid the pandemic. As New York City is considered the global epicenter of the crisis, the foundations will also advocate for free COVID-19 testing to all residents, regardless of status. They’ll directly support organizations in both cities, including the ACLU, New York Immigration Coalition, Mayor’s Fund for L.A. and Fund for Public Schools. (Rolling Stone)

High-Key Details

One of RiRi’s foundation executives has come forward to confirm the power move. She also explained the importance of helping both residents and first responders with their efforts.

“There are a number of populations who are especially vulnerable during this pandemic — those who are undocumented, incarcerated, elderly and homeless, as well as children of frontline health workers and first responders,” says Justine Lucas, executive director of the Clara Lionel Foundation. “Now more than ever, we need to support organizations prioritizing the health and rights of these individuals.” (Billboard)

Wait, There’s More

JAY’s mom and co-founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation has also spoken out. Gloria Carter discussed the importance of unity and providing both shelter and education during the COVID-19 epidemic.

“In times of crisis it is imperative that we come together as one community to ensure that everyone, especially the most vulnerable, has access to critical needs: shelter, health, nutrition, and education. The only way to get through this pandemic is with love and action.” (Billboard)

Before You Go

A few days ago, RiRi made headlines for doing her part to help with coronavirus relief efforts. The Barbados native pledged a few millions to help in both the nation and a few other countries.

Last week, Rihanna’s foundation had pledged a previous $5 million in grants to several on-the-ground partners working on the front lines of the pandemic response, geared to protecting vulnerable and marginalized communities in the United States, Caribbean and in Africa. (Daily Mail UK)
