Actress Awkwafina Leaves Twitter After Heavy Backlash

On Saturday, the Golden Globe-winning actress wrote a statement on Twitter to address the “blaccent” criticism. She wrote, “historical context of the African American community in this country,” adding, “And in life, linguistic acculturation, immigrant acculturation, and the inevitable passage of globalized internet slang all play a factor in the fine line between offense and pop culture.”

Awkwafina continued – “But as a non-Black POC, I stand by the fact that I will always listen and work tirelessly to understand the history and context of AAVE, what is deemed appropriate or backwards toward the progress of ANY and EVERY marginalized group,” she continued. “But I must emphasize: To mock, belittle, or to be unkind in any way possible at the expense of others is: Simply. Not. My. Nature. It never has, and it never was.”

Many have called her out after her tweet. One person tweeted, “How do you write a 4-6 page notes app “apology” to address how you essentially use AAVE and a blaccent like a walking minstrel show to make millions, yet the words sorry or I apologize never once touched the page…”

Joe Rogan Canceled Again

Joe Rogan is also facing heavy backlash. This time over the use of the N-word on his podcasts and artists are now boycotting spotify.

Rogan has been in hot water over the last several weeks for his anti-vaxx stance, but it is his use of the N-word over 70 times that has driven him out of the shadows to apologize.

Racist Judge Goes Viral

Additionally, we recently reported on a federal judge who was caught on video using racial slurs.

Judge Michelle Odinet, who oversees cases in Lafayette, Louisiana is showing her true colors. New footage has been released of her calling a black man who invaded her home the N-word, calling into question whether her apparent bias might have sullied her oversight of cases in Lafayette, Louisiana.
