While the world has been speculating on Quavo and Lana Del Rey’s relationship, we only know one thing for sure: that the two make a great set of collaborators. Out with their new song, ‘Tough’, the duo have taken a bold approach, melding western sonics with the hip hop sound in the most carefully selected (yet daring!) way possible.

Reverb washed drums cover the sonic bedrock as Lana and Quavo harmonise together on the hook, revealing a beautiful and unlikely combination of voices and genres. The duo previously teased a snippet on Instagram, where the two can be seen by a farm fence, together holding a gun and ready to shoot. Rapper Tobe Nwigwe expressed his appreciation for the song, calling it “hard”, while fans exclaimed and rejoiced, revelling in how “trap Lana is back!”

The track comes with a music video that perfectly captures the aesthetic of the sounds, shot and edited in a montage inspired by old memoir-esque home footage videos. The choppy, almost slow motioned and bright visuals are reminiscent of old post-VHS video quality, which blends seamlessly with the country inspired guitars. Lana and Quavo both bring equal soul to their performances, and express themselves in a way that’s never been heard before. Check out the song below!
