The Rising Support For Jussie
Earlier today, Jussie Smollett was released from an Illinois prison psych ward after protests from supporters and a doctor saying the star is a high risk for COVID-19. Jussie’s brother, Jocqui, believes fans made a difference in getting his brother into a normal bed and out of danger.
Cook County doesn’t really move until they get bad publicity, keep continuing to call Cook County Jail and demand Jussie be free.
Dr. Michael D. Freeman also submitted testimony in an affidavit stating that Jussie is at risk for COVID-19 due to his compromised immune system and should be released from custody to protect his health.
The prominent doctor said, “It is my opinion that incarcerating Mr. Smollett in prison would pose a risk to his health with Covid.”
TV writer Patrisse Cullors visited Smollet in jail and posted an update to his official social media account. He said, “It’s just unacceptable, today is the day he will be able to sleep on an actual bed. He’s been sleeping on a restraint bed and they filed for him to be released in court hopefully by Wednesday he’ll be out.”
Cullors added that fans need to continue to pressure the jail to let Smollet serve his sentence at home.
We need the fans to keep tagging #FreeJussie and call the jail and check up on him and say he needs to be freed while also challenge the misinformation in the case. What happened to Jussie can happen to anybody and it’s completely unacceptable.
Taraji P. Henson Compares Jussie Smollet to Emmett Till
Actress Taraji P. Henson finally broke her silence about the sentencing of her TV son, Jussie Smollett. Henson posted on Instagram with an attached image with the hashtag #FREEJUSSIE. She said, “I am not here to debate you on his innocence but we can all agree that the punishment does not fit the crime.”
She even went as far as comparing the situation to the horrific attack on Emmett Till.
Emmett Till was brutally beat and murdered because of a lie and none of the people involved spent one day in jail, even after Carolyn Bryant admitted that her claims were false.
Smollet’s Sentence Met With Glaring Silence
Meanwhile, Smollett’s 150-day sentence was originally met with a glaring public silence from his fellow actors. Empire creator/director Lee Daniels, castmates Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson, and his sister, Journee Smollett, made no comment.
None of Smollett’s fellow castmates offered words of encouragement or support. Their social media feeds made no mention of the sentencing announcement nor of Smollett’s cries of innocence.
