29 year old Boston-based artist The Kid is releasing his latest masterwork, the album The Kid and Friends, home to a collection of 11 tracks produced by him, mixed by Mertz and mastered by The Arcitype at The Bridge Sound & Stage. The project was complemented in 2019, and features a dozen collaborations, with artists such as CyHi The Prynce, IDK, Mick Jenkins, G Perico, Kemba, theMIND, Supa Bwe, Mir Fontane, Dutch ReBelle, Gio Dee, Michael Christmas, ScienZe, Tdot illdude, Daddio Smoov, Blanco Black, and Pineapple Jam. Pineapple Jam is The Kid’s own band in which he is the lead singer and drummer.

The singer, musician and beat maker started taking music seriously after listening to 808s & Heartbreak by Kanye West, which also marked the time when he started singing over his beats.

One of our personal favorites from the album is the track “Oh Brothah!” featuring IDK, Supa Bwe, T-Rich, that comes served with a sick beat and beautiful gospel-like chorus. “Dark,” featuring Mick Jenkins, Kemba & Daddio Smoov, is also one of the highlights of this album, starting-off with a powerful cello line that instantly sets the ‘dark’ mood supported by a minimalist beat reminding us of some of Nas’ iconic productions like “One Mic.”

From the 90’s vibe to today’s most advanced techniques, The Kid is just above categorization and has clearly found his special path in the genre, never limiting himself to any stereotype.
